Within Urban partnership program II, MAP collaborated with GONG in analyzing and enhancing practices of citizen participation in decision-making in the City of Karlovac

As a part of the Urban Partnership Program II, financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance and the World Bank, MAP participated in a two-day regional conference from 27-28 March, 2017 in Zagreb, serving as a formal closure of a regional initiative on increasing social accountability and citizen engagement on local levels.

The event gathered around 80 local government officials, local government associations, civil society organizations and other key stakeholders to share their knowledge and experiences from Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Under this program, MAP collaborated with GONG in analyzing and enhancing citizen engagement practices in the City of Karlovac, highlighting some concrete areas for improved practices, codified in an Action Plan for improving citizen engagement in decision-making processes in the City of Karlovac which was enacted by the City Council on March 28, 2017.

Besides being a platform for disseminating the results of the UPP initiative, the participants at the conference also had a chance to learn more about other good practices for socially inclusive citizen engagement and innovative tools of governance, including ICT tools used for integrating citizen’s voice from the region and beyond.
